We are now driving from Tampere to Hämeenlinna, via Valkeakoski.
Valkeakoski is a town in Finland, located about 35 kilometers south of Tampere in the Pirkanmaa region. The town is known for its beautiful lake landscapes, situated at the confluence of Lake Mallasvesi and Lake Vanajavesi. Nearly one-third of the city's area is covered by water.
Valkeakoski has a rich history dating back to the Iron Age, with the area being home to the Rapola fort over a thousand years ago. The town's industrialization began in the late 19th century, with the opening of the Valkeakoski channel in 1869 and the completion of the first paper mill in 1873. This marked the beginning of a long tradition in the forest industry.
Today, Valkeakoski is known for its vibrant sports and cultural scene. The town is home to the successful football team, FC Haka, and offers a variety of recreational activities, including skiing.
